Grammar Notes & Usage Tips
•遠慮 is usually used with する (to do), so say 遠慮します to mean “I hesitate” or “I hold back.”
•Use を with 遠慮する, like in プレゼントを遠慮します (“I’ll pass on the gift”) — don’t forget the を!
•遠慮しないで means “Don’t hold back,” so it’s a friendly way to encourage someone — just be sure not to say 遠慮しませんで, which sounds unnatural.
