This Privacy Policy (“Privacy Policy”) explains how Benkyō Mashou collects, uses, and safeguards your data when you use our services. Benkyō Mashou is owned by MWD Services LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”), a company registered at 5810 West Riva Capri Street, Meridian, ID 83646, USA.

By using or accessing the Benkyō Mashou app or website, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy. We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, and we will notify users of any significant changes through the app or our website.

The Benkyō Mashou app does not require registration, and in the app we do not collect personal identifiers such as names, email addresses, or phone numbers. However, we may collect the following anonymous data to improve the app’s functionality and experience using third-party services such as Amazon Web Services, analytics providers, and support providers like Google and Apple:

  • Device type, operating system, and language preference
  • Time zone and IP address
  • Activity data, such as app feature usage and session duration

Website accounts. The learning dashboard on our website requires an account. When you create one, we collect and store:

  • Your name and email address
  • Learning data from your use of the platform, such as your progress and practice activity
  • If you subscribe: your plan, subscription status, renewal date and a Stripe customer reference

We use your email address to verify your account, to reset your password and to contact you about your account or subscription.

3. Activity Data

When using certain features of the app, such as AI-speaking practice, your device’s microphone may be used to capture your voice. These audio recordings are processed anonymously and used solely to provide feedback and improve the learning experience. The recordings are stored temporarily and deleted automatically after 7 days.

Important: These recordings are not tied to any personal identity and cannot be linked back to individual users.

On the website, the messages you type and the recordings you make in speaking practice are sent to our servers and to our AI and speech providers (OpenAI and Amazon Web Services) to produce replies, feedback and audio. Recordings are stored without your name or email address and are deleted on the same 7-day schedule. Your messages and practice activity may be stored for your learning, such as showing your history and progress.

4. Payments

All in-app purchases and subscriptions for Benkyō Mashou are processed through third-party services, including Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and RevenueCat. We do not directly collect or store payment information such as credit card details or billing addresses.

Subscriptions bought on our website are processed by Stripe. Your card details are entered on Stripe's pages and held by Stripe. We never see or store them. We store only a Stripe customer reference, your plan, your subscription status and its renewal date.

5. Cookies and Third-Party Services

The Benkyō Mashou app does not explicitly use cookies. However, third-party tools integrated into the app, such as analytics or performance monitoring services, may use cookies to collect anonymous usage data. Cookies are small files stored on your device and are commonly used to enhance app functionality.

You can choose to accept or decline cookies through your device settings. Declining cookies may affect certain features of the app.

On the website, we set a cookie when you sign in so that you stay signed in, for up to 60 days or until you sign out. The website also uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to measure visits.

  • Ensure the app functions smoothly across devices
  • Improve app features and provide a better user experience
  • Support AI features, such as speaking practice feedback

Website account data is used to sign you in, to provide the subscription you bought and to send account emails (verification and password reset).

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, please note that no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

8. Data Retention

Audio recordings from speaking practice sessions are stored temporarily on our servers and deleted automatically after 7 days. Aggregated usage data is retained to help improve the app’s performance and features.

Website account data is kept for as long as your account exists. To have your account and its data deleted, email hello@benkyoumashou.com from the email address on your account. Payment records held by Stripe are kept by Stripe as the law requires.

9. Children’s Privacy

Benkyō Mashou is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that such data has been collected, we will delete it promptly.
