Example Sentences

I do not receive money from my mother.
I will receive a letter from the teacher.

Grammar Notes & Usage Tips

Use もらう when you or someone close to you receives something from someone else — the giver is marked with に and the thing received with を (e.g., 友だちにプレゼントをもらいました).
Don’t mix up もらう and あげる — もらう is used when you’re the one receiving, not giving.
You can also use 〜て もらう when someone does something for you (e.g., 手伝ってもらいました = "They helped me"), showing gratitude or benefit.
