How to use Ageru: grammar notes
•Use 上げる when you or someone else lifts or raises something — the thing being lifted usually comes before を (e.g. 手を上げる = to raise your hand).
•When you're giving something to someone as a kind gesture, 上げる can also mean "to give" — just make sure the receiver comes before に (e.g. 友だちにプレゼントを上げる = to give a present to a friend).
•Don’t confuse 上げる (to give/raise) with もらう (to receive) — remember, 上げる is from the giver’s point of view.
