Grammar Notes & Usage Tips
•Use が with 知っています (I know) to mark the thing you know — for example, 日本語が知っています is incorrect; say 日本語がわかります or 日本語を知っています (more natural: 日本語がわかります).
•To say “I know,” use the polite form 知っています, not just 知る — saying 知る sounds unnatural in conversation unless you're talking about discovering something.
•Don’t confuse 知っています (I know) with わかります (I understand) — 知っている is about having knowledge, while わかる is about comprehension or clarity.
