たりる

to be sufficient; to be enough

Ichidan verbJLPT N4

Example Sentences

お金が足りません。
I don't have enough money.
時間は足りました。
There was enough time.
水が足りると思います。
I think the water is enough.

Grammar Notes & Usage Tips

足りる usually uses the particle が to mark the thing that is (or isn’t) enough — for example, お金が足りません (I don’t have enough money).
Don’t use を with 足りる — since 足りる is about something “being enough,” not “doing” something to an object, を is incorrect here.
You can use 足りない (the negative form) to say something isn’t enough — for example, 時間が足りない means “I don’t have enough time.”
