Grammar Notes & Usage Tips

Use を after the thing you're reading: 本を読む (hon o yomu) means "to read a book."
Don't forget to change 読む to its ます-form (読みます) in polite situations like talking to teachers or strangers.
If you're saying who is doing the reading, use が: 田中さんが読む (Tanaka-san ga yomu) means "Tanaka reads."
