What is the Nakatta Form?
The なかった form is how you say "didn't do" in casual Japanese. It's the past negative in plain speech. The casual version of ませんでした.
The conjugation is refreshingly simple: if you already know the nai-form, just swap ない for なかった. That's the entire rule for every verb, every group, no exceptions.

The process is always the same:
- Make the ない form
- Replace ない with なかった

Why This Form is Easy
Unlike the た form and て form (which have five different sound-change patterns for u-verbs), なかった has zero special patterns. The hard work is in making the ない form. Once you have that, adding なかった is mechanical.
Think of it as a two-step process:
- Step 1: Get to ない (the tricky part)
- Step 2: Swap ない → なかった (the easy part)
