With; putting (feeling) into; filled with

Formation:Noun (emotion) + を込めて

Feeling Poured Into an Action

を込(こ)めて says an action was done with a particular emotion put into it.

  • 心(こころ)を込(こ)めて作(つく)りました。(I made it with all my heart.)

It Only Takes Emotions

The noun before it must be a feeling or something feeling-like: 心(こころ), 愛(あい), 感謝(かんしゃ), 祈(いの)り, 願(ねが)い, 怒(いか)り.

Concrete nouns do not work: ×砂糖(さとう)を込(こ)めて. For putting a physical thing in, use 入(い)れる.

を込めた Before a Noun

  • 感謝(かんしゃ)を込(こ)めた手紙(てがみ)(a letter written with gratitude)

Where You Meet It

Gift cards, speeches, product copy and song lyrics. It is warm rather than formal, and it appears constantly on packaging — 真心(まごころ)を込(こ)めて is close to a fixed phrase in Japanese marketing.
