How to use Ku: grammar notes
•When talking about eating or drinking your own meal in a very polite way (like to a boss or customer), you can say ごはんをいただきます instead of ごはんをたべます or のみます — don’t forget to use the particle を with the food or drink.
•Use 〜にいただく when politely saying you received something from someone (like a gift from your teacher), for example: 先生に本をいただきました — be careful not to accidentally use あげる here, since you’re the one receiving.
•Don’t use いただく to talk about someone else eating or receiving — it’s only for yourself when you want to sound humble or respectful.
